  • Discover the origins and the originator of the Islamic religion
  • Identify the cause and effect of an early division within the tradition
  • Learn the '5 Pillars' that continue to shape the Islamic beliefs and practices

  • Chapter 10 - Islam
Consider the following as you read Chapter 10:
  1. According to the text; What was Muhammad's profession before becoming a prophet? 
  2. Describe the origin of the Qur’an and know the five pillars of Islam. 
  3. Why do Muslims go to Mecca and what is their journey called? Who is supposed to participate and who is exempt?
  4. Define 'jihad' and how has it been expressed? (pg 494-495)

I suggest you write out, or at least know the definitions fairly well before beginning this part of the exam.

   Part II: Essay (60 pts)
  • Part II consists of completing/answering questions on paper and submitting your paper to the dropbox on the Coursework/Assignments page.

  • Submit your Final Exam Part II: Essay, to the dropbox on the Coursework/Assignments page, by Friday, 11:55 pm, CST..
Assignment 5.3: Final Project

Assignment 5.4: Religious Services Visitation Reflection #2
  • Submit your visitations experience paper to the dropbox on the Coursework/Assignments page by Friday, 11:55 pm, CST.
Assignment 5.5: End of Course Reflection
  • Identify 2 or 3 important points from your encounter with: the text or a video or a your visit to a religious service or discussion board entry
  • Relate what was discussed, to your own experience, or to other outside readings/ research that you have done (websites or books other than your text)
  • What message, images, insights or learning will stay with you?
  • List questions you still have about what you saw/heard during this course from any or all of your assignments, including the video’s of the speakers.
  • Submit your reflection to the drop box on the Coursework/Assignments page, by Friday, 11:55 pm, CST.
