Answer:

Once you are able to replenish the oxygen supply in your body, the lactic acid is actually converted back into energy source for the muscle tissue.

Build up of lactic acid is what creates muscular soreness. Is is helpful to massage, ice, and focus on breathing to restore the oxygenation quickly to the muscles.
