All employees of NMC are integral to the success of the institution and our students. NMC desires to cultivate highly engaged employees and YOU MATTER is NMC’s employee engagement program. During NMC’s Veteran’s Day tribute, keynote speaker Chaplain Major Jonathan D. Wymer spoke the words, “The work you do MATTERS” and inspired the college community to bring the YOU MATTER employee engagement program to fruition. The simple phase captured NMC’s belief that “If work matters, teams naturally form. If work matters, people want to do their best.”
At NMC, our mission and core values are engrained in our culture and NMC believes in the impact our employees have on our students, the college, and the community. YOU MATTER involves employee contributors spanning across the college community. You Matter also heavily utilizes two toolsets: Clifton Strengths Finder and The Pacific Institute (TPI) – Mindset Training. Please enjoy TPI’s free resources: Click Here or their blog:Click Here
Every year we measure our culture with our internal culture audit which was redesigned in 2016. It consisted of reassessing the questions that were being asked and identifying the best way to measure our five core values. Our core values are integrated with our culture, so what better way to assess the results every year! Every few years we also introduce an external audit.
In 2018 we chose The Pacific Institute with their Cultural BluePrint. The Cultural BluePrint shows how we perceive our culture compared to the vision of where we want our culture. By assessing our culture in this manner it showed us a new view of the areas that we need to work on together.

At NMC, we have embraced “The Starfish Story” from the day a student enters the door to the day they graduate. For our students to feel the impact, our employees must understand the meaning and the history of the story. Please take a moment to view the video below to understand the meaning of “The Starfish Story” at NMC!
