The female reproductive system is an "open system" because the uterine tube and ovary are not direclty connected but have a spacing in which the ova is released. The structure that helps to catch the ova is the fimbriae.
Due to the "open system" anatomy, it can easily lead to entry of foreign substances and pathogens (disease causing sub) into the uterus or abdominopelvic cavity.
