Anatomical Position:

The palms facing forward, thumbs being most lateral in the upper extremity.

This helps to determine the orientation of the forearm bones because in this position the radius is the most lateral, oriented in the direction of the thumb. Conversely, the ulna is the most medial, oriented in the direction of the little finger.
