Description

This course consists of articles to be read and papers completed online and an internship in the deaf community
relating to healthcare services. Strategies of Communication will examine the various forms of communication used by
individuals with a hearing loss other than ASL such as Signing Exact Language, Video Relay Services, UbiDuo, C-print
and CART services. This course will also focus on the specific rights deaf/hard-of-hearing patients have under the
American with Disability Act (ADA), as well as gain knowledge of other resources available for deaf/hard-of-hearing
patients such as the National Association for the Deaf (NAD). The students will gain one-on-one experience with an
individual who is deaf or hard-of-hearing to complete a healthcare history portfolio.
