Description
This course explores the development and care of premature infants including infants with complex health issues.
Nurses have an integral role in providing family-centered care while conducting thorough and accurate assessments,
utilizing critical decision-making skills and communicating within a multidisciplinary team in a technology-driven
atmosphere. This course will focus on understanding how systems and developmental care differ for premature
infants, and their families to include how this impacts the population as a whole. Students will advance their
knowledge of fetal development, maternal risk factors, and resuscitation/stabilization of the newborn. Students will
consider challenges facing neonatal care including the impact of developmental and family-centered care, ethical
issues, technology and trends.
