Planning for, selecting, and managing information resources for a medical practice constitute a challenging, dynamic responsibility, albeit one that is critical to the organizations??? success. The knowledge base changes continually and relatively rapidly. Decisions about information products cannot be made in isolation, as interoperability of information technology is required to support seamless health care for individuals. No other domain of the medical practice executive???s knowledge is constrained with the degree of regulation and external oversight that is present in health information management. The stakes are high, as an individual???s right to privacy and the assurance of information security are at risk. The accountability for managing and protecting sensitive information falls to the practice manager.
