CLINICAL INFO SYST FOR CLIN PRACT (NRS 568)

Description

In this course, students investigate aspects of technology in the nursing informatics role through a precepted
experience. Students select a nursing informaticist in a healthcare setting to serve as a preceptor. Students explore the
selection, implementation, management, and evaluation of healthcare information systems. Healthcare information
systems are analyzed through SWOT, usability, and workflow evaluation. Students examine the impact of technology
on patient safety and information security, public health surveillance, and health information exchange. The precepted
clinical experience allows for the practical application of course theory and interaction with a multidisciplinary team
practical application of knowledge to the advanced nursing practice specialty.
Credits: 4.0 / 84 practicum hours
Prerequisites: All program coursework except NRS 569, NRS 592 and NRS 594, or by permission.
