Are you planning to apply for promotion (“advancement in rank”) to the next level of rank as a faculty member? NMC’s Advancement in Rank Committee has prepared a number of resources to help support you in your Advancement-in-Rank (AIR) journey.

  • Required form for identifying professional references and their relationship with you
  • Videos to help you locate information about the AIR process, its timeline and other requirements such as the 10 components of a completed AIR Promotion Portfolio, here in "Advancement in Rank Resources"
  • A FAQs Sheet on AIR
  • Guidelines as well as forms to use for Peer Evaluation (Two, minimum, are required as part of Teaching documentation, as well as a "Reflection on, and summary of, peer evaluations: (Section 4a, p. 33 of NMC Employee Handbook)
  • "Guiding Language": descriptions of what the AiR Committee looks for in reviewing Advancement in Rank Portfolios.

  • NMC’s CREATE (Center for Research, Education, And Teaching Excellence) Center was initiated in 2015 at NMC to help faculty grow in the areas of Teaching, Scholarship, and Service. The resources linked below were moved some time ago to Brightspace, so some information about people, events, and award systems are out of date. But the principles of excelling in teaching, scholarship, and service, which you can find here, may also prove valuable as you assemble artifacts for your advancement portfolio and reflect upon your performance in view of the descriptions of expectations at each faculty rank.

CREATE Resources (2016)

Typically, advancement is based upon one demonstrating certain levels of proficiency in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service. To help you to prepare for AiR, this CREATE site in MyMethodist hosts the following opportunities for each of these areas:

  • Teaching - The Learning Modules & Opportunities and the Resources to Support Teaching & Learning pages provide support and ongoing professional development to help you to continually improve as a professional educator. Earning badges and CEUs for these programs can help to demonstrate your commitment to excellence in this area. Similarly, the Evidence-Based Course Development Resources page can help you to ensure that your courses are being developed in accordance with the latest evidence-based recommendations for quality courses. In addition, there are resources that will help you with faculty peer evaluations, which include evaluation forms for classes and clinical observations and a recommended timeline. 

 

  • Scholarship - The Resources to Support Teaching & Learning page contains information about journals that you can submit articles to as well as conferences that you can present at and/or attend. The Funding Opportunities page contains information on how to receive money to support scholarship projects that are related to teaching and learning.
