Student Expectations and Responsibilities

Tutoring is provided, free of charge, to all undergraduate students and is facilitated by trained, qualified NMC students. Prior to meeting with a peer-tutor, students are encouraged to review the follow student expectations to ensure that their tutoring experience is as effective, efficient, and productive as possible:

  • Attempt course work and assignments prior to tutoring sessions
  • Express the specific questions to be covered in tutoring ahead of time
  • Arrive to tutoring sessions on time and take an active interest in learning
  • Bring books and/or class materials – and questions – to tutoring sessions
  • Respect the tutor and listen while he or she is providing assistance
  • Notify the tutor if you cannot attend tutoring sessions or will be late with as much advance notice as possible.

Want to Be a Tutor?

Students interested in serving as a tutor for their NMC peers are encouraged to first discuss their interest with the faculty member for the course they would like to tutor, then complete the online Tutor Application Form. With faculty endorsements, students in good academic standing and possessing strong organizational, study, and communication skills will be considered strong applicants.

Want to Nominate a Tutor?

Faculty are encouraged to nominate students to serve as tutors for their courses. Those seeking to nominate a student can email the Coordinator of Academic Success with your recommendations at Stacey.nelson@methodistcollege.edu. With faculty endorsements, students in good academic standing and possessing strong organizational, study, and communication skills will be considered strong applicants.

We are pleased to offer online tutoring services through a partnership with NetTutor. This online tutoring service is designed to complement supplemental Instruction and on-campus tutoring services which are also available to all students.  NetTutor is provided at no additional cost to students and is available to students in all NMC programs.

    How to Upload a Paper into NetTutor

    In My Methodist, you can access NetTutor from the "Tutoring" tab.

    1. Click the  link to launch NetTutor
    2. Select the “Online Writing Lab”
    3. Select the “Paper Center” and then “Submit Your Paper” in the next window to reach the paper submission page.
