Week 2 Content

This week, we will focus on Cultural & Spiritual Assessment, Wellness, Mental Health, Abuse & Neglect. Through participating in the discussion assignment, and the article review, you should be able to meet the following objectives:

Objectives:

  • Compare models of spiritual assessment.
  • Realize the importance of cultural support and social support in the perception of well being.
  • Explain the role of gender in health disparities.
  • Analyze cultural assessment data to develop a health promotion plan.
  • Define types of abuse and neglect.
  • Examine the role of the nurse in assessment for abuse/neglect, interventions if abuse/neglect is present, and prevention of abuse/neglect.
  • Describe developmental and cultural influences on mental health/illness.
  • Identify pertinent health history data and physical assessment data as they relate to mental health/illness.
  • Identify the nurse's role in promoting wellness and reducing disease.
  • Develop an individualized wellness plan that addresses sleep, exercise, and stress reduction.

Week 2 Assignments

Assignment 2.1: Post to Week 2 Discussion. Your initial post is due by Thursday of this week, and 2 substantive responses to any question is due by Saturday of this week.
 
Assignment 2.2: Complete a 2-3 page article review. This article should examine cultural diversity in relation to health behaviors and/or health assessment. Your article does not need to be a research article but must be from a peer reviewed journal and no more than 5 years old. Submit your article review to the dropbox on the Coursework/Assignments page.
