What is the Faculty Development Committee?

Purpose

The purpose of the Faculty Development Committee is to provide opportunities for academic and professional development of the faculty and to recognize faculty achievements.

Functions:

a. To collaborate with the faculty and administration on the initiation of Faculty Development proposals and programs aimed to develop faculty skills in pedagogy, promotion of scholarship, and service.

b. To develop, promote, and conduct a variety of programs and opportunities to enable the professional development of the faculty. 

c. To implement the procedure for selection of the recipients of Peer Recognition–Teaching and Peer Recognition–Service awards.

d. To participate in the recognition of outstanding teaching.

e. To collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to advocate for physical/technical resources to enhance faculty and institutional operations and success.

The vision of the Center for Research, Education, And Teaching Excellence (CREATE!) is an innovative and dynamic culture of excellence in teaching and learning at Nebraska Methodist College (NMC). In pursuit of this, CREATE’s mission is to nurture an environment that provides resources and opportunities for collaboration, pedagogical exploration, and inquiry for faculty, staff, and students.

Program Goals

The following are goals that CREATE! will be pursuing in the near-term:

  • CREATE! will facilitate faculty, staff, and student’s ability to effectively promote active teaching and learning strategies to facilitate the achievement of program specific outcomes as well as the college’s Educated Citizen goals.
  • CREATE! will assist faculty, staff, and students in the development of learner-centered and well-organized courses using evidence-based course design methods.
  • CREATE! will facilitate faculty, staff, and student development of authentic and varied assessment strategies that draw from diverse sources.
  • CREATE! will facilitate ongoing development of leadership, collaboration, and scholarship among faculty, staff, and students.
